Found money is yet another keyword for unclaimed property. It is money that was lost but is now found. It is money that was forgotten or misplaced.

Understanding the existence of found money, you are able to conclude that the owner either had knowledge of the whereabouts of this money and forgot about it or the money was never in their possession.

Unclaimed property listings are provided to all citizens, national or international by the unclaimed property division of each state.

Because billions of dollars were being reported as unclaimed property, rules and regulations were put in place so that each individual state would act as custodian over this money for safekeeping until the owners could be notified and their property has been reclaimed. To find property unclaimed owned by you, link to our Information Listing page where all 50 states are listed with their links to searchable databases.

Because of the enormous amount of unclaimed property being reported each year, it became a big business because of the billions of dollars that were reported unclaimed. In order to keep some order in knowing what property belongs to what owner, each state creates an information database to record the property unclaimed and the owner of that property.

This database that was created by each state provides as much information as possible to help the owner to identify their property. The information included in an unclaimed property database are listed below:

  • Property owner's name (First name middle name or initial and last name).
  • Property owner's address (Provides last known address of owner. Several states chose not to include the address in their listing).
  • Type of property reported (Mutual funds, inheritances, death benefits, lawsuit settlements, cash money, abandoned bank accounts, safe deposit box contents, rent and utility refunds, court refunds, child support, social service checks, wages and payroll, money orders and etc.).
  • Name of reporting company (These companies could be employers, hospitals, automotive, department stores, insurance companies, banks and investment companies, etc.).
  • Date property reported (The start date would be after a domancy period has lasped and the different companies and agencies transfers it to the state).
  • Dollar value of said property (Provides a cash value amount for property of unclaimed property owners).

Having knowledge of the above information provides a protective shield for potential owners searching for found money. Consider the following:

  • When searching for money owed to you, there is no property finder or middle man to pay a finder's fee to.
  • You don't have to provide identifying information to strangers other than your state's unclaimed property office personnel who will in turn provide you the information that you have been searching for.

There is, of course, one way that you can show your gratitude and appreciation to a site that has provided you with valuable information to assist you in having a successful search, is to provide a testimonial to that affect. Information that would be priceless would be a testimonial from you, the owner of found money. You can provide a snapshot and include your first name, or your initials and include the state and or country of residence.

Monetary gifts are appreciated if that is what you desire to do. Sharing your abundant money blessings with others would truly be appreciated.
